The Hopkins and Miller Show–
“Banjo meets Broadway”.... a fitting description of the unique blend of musical styles performed by banjoist, Robin Hopkins, and vocalist Kathleen Miller, along with their trio of world-class musicians. Robin and Kathleen draw on music that was written primarily during the first half of the twentieth century; Dixie, Broadway, swing tunes, as well as show stoppers are included in their extensive concert repertoire. Their virtuoso musical talent, sincerity and contagious enthusiasm, come together for an unforgettable evening as; Hopkins & Miller present their uplifting renditions from the Great American songbook in their own special way.
Kathleen Miller is one of America’s most versatile vocalists. Her wide ranging musical talents allow her to be as comfortable with light and lively swing or Dixie tunes, as well as a great Carmichael or Porter ballad; not to mention humorous comedy numbers. Tunes such as Hoagy's "Stardust” and Harold Arlen"s "Over The Rainbow", are given just treatment. And when she launches into Sophie Tucker's "Some Of These Days”, watch out boys!
As John Davidson says, “Kathleen is a true entertainer” who's connection with her audience is instant and never lost throughout her performance.
Robin brings to the act, twenty years of New Orleans hot jazz. He is a veteran of The Steamer Delta Queen and has performed at the Sacramento Jubilee jazz festival. He has done studio session work including a track for the legendary comedy radio act of “Bob and Tom” and most recently, a Christmas album for The Buselli-Wallarab Jazz Orchestra. Robin demonstrates his virtuosity with the classic "Malaguena" and; his medley from "Fiddler On The Roof" has converted many a non-believer to the beauty and power of this truly American instrument. For the banjo buffs, Robin also performs with his custom grand artist plectrum banjo by OME.
Hopkins and Miller are joined on the stage with either “The Little Big Band” or their trio, The Sophisticats; all virtuoso musicians in their own right, contributing to the show by performing amazing feats of musical magic. For that swinging big band sound, trumpet, trombone, tenor & alto saxes are added to the mix. The "big sound" is a product of the artistic arrangements of nationaly renowned arrangers Brent Wallarab and Mark Buselli.
Recently, Hopkins & Miller were featured at Cypress Gardens in Florida, as well as the national reunion of the U.S. Army's elite 10th Mountain division in St. Louis, MO. They have also appeared at the annual jazz festival on Mackinaw Island and have been broadcast nationally over the ABC/Stardust network. They have also toured with the Grand Hotel Orchestra, opened for Burt Bacharach and were featured guest entertainers aboard the Crown Princess. Their music can also be heard over numerous radio stations across the country.
We are also having our fourth annual Red Hat Fall Fling luncheon show at the Oak Hill Mansion in Carmel, Indiana on September 18, 2007. For information: 1-800-398-6408
